The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at UMC/University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) involves all aspects of care for seizure disorders -- from diagnosis with the aid of routine and inpatient video-EEG monitoring to treatment utilizing all available anti-epileptic drugs, experimental drug protocols, and vagus nerve stimulator (epilepsy surgery).
Epilepsy is a disorder of the central nervous system in which there is a tendency for recurrent seizures of various types.
Signs and symptoms of an underlying seizure disorder include mild symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, or brief alteration of awareness, or more obvious symptoms like involuntary stiffening or jerking of an extremity, or even convulsion.
